Wiki Slips into Symbian Costume: Looks Promising
Wikipedia or Wiki as it’s popularly known as, needs no introduction to any netizen spending a decent amount of time on the web these days. However the popular web encyclopedia has been overlooking the symbian eco-system when it comes to releasing a dedicated app for the platform. However the dawn of 2010 has heralded another welcome addition to the symbian world with the Wikipedia Reader Widget, thanks to Symbian Foundation’s developer wiki system.
We don’t have to tell how handy Wiki on your 5800 can be but we will tell how easy it is to use this widget on your favorite phone, just after the break.
Screenshots-
It’s a rather simple widget and one can start “wiki”ing straightaway but one thing that disappointed was the speed of response. For a webkit based widget with a no frills interface such as this one, we were expecting the performance to be much more fluid than what we experienced. However, it’s still a good widget as it’s faster than accessing the wiki webpage from the default symbian browser.
What we Like?
- Easy to use interface
- Almost as handy as the desktop version of wiki
What we don’t like?
- Sluggish performance!
Verdict
The wiki widget may not be as blazing fast as it is on the web on a desktop or some of the other widgets on symbian but it no doubt adds increased productivity to your online activities from 5800s. The widget needs some fine-tuning with regards to its speed of performance and even otherwise we don’t see many users complaining. So, the bottom-line is if wiki is ur first reference of choice, then this widget is a must have. Otherwise, nothing wrong in trying this free widget.
