Tube 5800 App Review: For Your Ears Only
No, we didn’t mis-spell the app name nor or we referring to the Roger Moore starer 1981 Bond movie “For Your Eyes Only”. Infact we are talking about a symbian application, which couldn’t have been named any better! For Your Ears Only brings that iPod like functionality of auto-pause of music player when the ear/headphones is disconnected from the phone.
While there are motion controlled bluetooth headsets from today, that can auto-play music when they are unplugged from the ears, it will probably cost you flesh and bone to get this feature on your 5800. So instead, let’s take the easy way around and see how “For Your Ears Only” fares on our 5800s.

We should tell you that this application is just a proto-type and has no fancy interface as such. What we like about the application is its sheer simplicity: Just install the app, start the music player, start the application and thats it. Unplug and plug your headsets to pause/play your music player. Please note the sequence of operation and don’t start the application before initiating the music player.
What we like?
- iPod like auto play/pause is a cool feature to have on our Xpressmusic phones
- Simple operation
What we don’t like?
- An intuitive interface can be added to the application
Verdict
While we have always wondered why this seemingly obvious feature was left out of the symbian OS, we are glad that some enterprising developer has come forward and developed a stand-alone application for this functionality.
The application being just a prototype lacks a decent interface but thats something which can be fixed as and when the final version is released. Even in the absence of a decent interface, the app is pretty much functional and easy-to-use. If you happen to be like us and get your daily dose of music from 5800s, this is a definitely a must have.
Thanks to DailyMobile, for digging it out from the bylanes of the web and ofcourse hats off to the anonymous developer of this app.
