Open Video Hub: Unleashing the Tube within 5800s

Open Video Hub, does the name ring any bells? Obviously not, for it was earlier known as emTube, one of the first YouTube clients for s60. Well, we have some good news for you for not only has emTube got better, it has gone open source and rechristened as Open Video Hub (OVH). Thats not all, it now has DailyMotion and Metacafe under its hood and that is in addition to YouTube.

We gotta say that the app has some of the coolest buttons we have seen on 5800s. Lets get into the functionalities of the app now: the app is a complete video streaming solution which not only allows users to stream video content from the web but also provides options to upload videos and even download videos (we didn’t manage to figure out how to download yet, any volunteers?). Now this is what we have been waiting for all along, for our Tube has been missing that powerful YouTube client which would let us upload and download videos directly from and to our 5800s.

What we like?

Amazing streaming speeds (miles ahead of Google’s YouTube client)
Support for DailyMotion and Metacafe
Most of the YouTube features can be accessed directly from the app (Featured videos, Latest videos, sorting etc)

What we don’t like?

Setup file needs to signed (This dailymobile forum tutorial should suffice to most of our readers)

Verdict

We are very happy to finally see a YouTube client that lives up to its name and brings full YouTube features to our 5800s. We can now say that the Tube 5800 has finally arrived! While uploading videos is a cakewalk, we were not able to figure out how to download videos. We are sure some pundits out there will throw some light on this but even in the absence of download feature, OVH is one of the best video streaming client we have seen on 5800s. Further the fact that OVH is open source, opens new avenues to developers to integrate the app with different services.

We gotta say, “Your 5800 is no Tube if you don’t have OVH installed on it.”
