Mr.Snake- Things You Need to Know About Protean Snakes

Have you ever seen a live snake? A scary sight for most of us but they are pretty harmless creatures, if left on their own. However if you are hitting the jungle trail over a weekend for a camping trip, you better have some basic info about snakes and related first aid.

You must be wondering why we are lecturing on snakes and first aid, here at Tube5800. No, we didn’t stray off topic but we are very much talking about 5800s. Wondering how? We are actually talking about this edutaining app from Simon Botes called Mr.Snake. Let’s find out what this app has to offer on our 5800s, after the break though.

The app is more like an e-book than any symbian app and we are not complaining its one of the most informative compilations we have seen on snakes or anything for that matter on the 5800s. The homescreen of the app takes you to the map of South Africa from where you can get province specific information on the reptiles found there along with detailed info on each of the species and emergency numbers to be contacted, just in case you are caught on the wrong foot.

What we like?

  1. High edutaining quotient
  2. Emergency numbers are very handy

What we don’t like?

  1. Emergency numbers are not softcoded for direct dialing from the app
  2. Limited to reptiles found in South Africa

Verdict

This is easily one of the most edutaining apps we have seen so far on the 5800s. Not only is its informative with its vivid photos and background info, the emergency numbers can be life saving if you ever happen to be attacked by one of these reptiles. However, the app needs some tweaks in the UI along with the issues we listed in the “We don’t like” list. The developer however has promised to work on some of the aspects in the next version of the app.

The app which is the first mobile app of its kind is available for free for download directly on to your mobile browsers at: http://tinyurl.com/yk9uytz

P.S- The developer will also be adding this app to Nokia’s Ovi store soon, where it will again be available as a free download.
