Moolan: An Awe-inspiring Game for Nokia 5800
Can you list the different sensors onboard on our 5800? Wondering Why we are asking that now? We just happen to stop by this amazing game at the ovi store-Moolan, which reminded us of the capability of our Tube 5800s and no we are not talking about the graphics rendering capability here.
Moolan is one of those accelerometer based games and thats not all about it, this is the first game to use the onboard proximity sensor as one of the controls within the game. Thats good enough a reason to try this game for us. Screenshots and a brief review after the break.
Screenshots-

Moolan is space shuttle maneuvering game involving landing the shuttle on a designated platform using the accelerometer for guiding the shuttle. The proximity sensor pitches in as an on/off switch for thruster. The proximity sensor is right next to the front camera, in case you were wondering what we are talking about and is responsible for turning of the touchscreen when you put your 5800 to your ear during a call.
Coming to the game, it reminds us of the classic Moonlander video game of the yesteryears. We are totally bowled over by the innovative use of proximity sensor for gaming control and the game has very high entertainment quotient.
What we like?
- Innovative use of different onboard sensors
- Decent graphics
What we hate?
- The game just gets too difficult after level 4 (Either we are severely handicapped or the game developers are the developers behind applications used for screening pilots-commercial and combat)
- Left/right thrusting follow only one angle (anti-clockwise/clockwise, which is rather confusing at times)
Molan is one of the most innovative games we have seen on the symbian fifth edition platform. Not only it excels at using different onboard sensors as control inputs on a device devoid of any physical keyboard like our 5800 but it also does an excellent job of recreating the classic Moonlander game on the mobile platform. No wonder the game won the top award in Forum Nokia Games University Challenge 2009. The game does need some fine tuning here and there but we are not complaining much considering the price tag of just $2.99. Moolan is definitely one of the must have games and we must warn you its highly addictive.
Moolan can be downloaded from the ovi webstore (login necessary)
