Guest Review: X-plore – File Explorer for Nokia 5800
Missing that file explorer like browsing you are used to on your PC/Mac? Now you can browse your 5800, explorer style courtesy: X-plore by Lonely Cat Games. X-plore v1.34 for S60V5 is an awesome File Manager made by Lonely Cat Games for the 5800. It is one of the most important application for any Symbian Device.
This application is a lot different from conventional File Manager present in Symbian. Instead of clicking and opening each and every folder one by one, it contains a easy and exciting hierarchical view which lets you easily browse through folders and files. Additionally your Phone Memory and Memory Card comes as different Drives just like Windows. Hit on the jump button for an exhaustive review of X-plore on Nokia 5800.

Following the similar structure as a standard Windows explorer, all the folders are denoted by a folder icon. The folders having subfolders have a drop down hierarchy. Known file types contain Icon Images along with the File size for each and every File that is listed.
File Marking is really easy for s60v5 touch devices. You can press the file Iion to automatically mark that file. By clicking on the Folder, you can browse the contents of the folder, whereas if you click on the folder icon, it will automatically get marked. You don’t need to go to the Options menu and mark them manually as you would be doing for the file manager in symbian.
The app packs an amazing set of features:
Know file types are accompanied with inbuilt File Handling. These include Inbuilt Archive System to view ZIP and RAR Files and also make ZIP Archives. Word Documents and Text Files are handled with a handy Text Viewer which supports TXT, DOC and DOCX formats. Image and audio files are handled by inbuilt image and music players. They are not so feature rich, but they are good additions for this application.
This application supports Infrared (for devices with infrared hardware) and bluetooth for file transfers. Multiple file transfer is really fast and you also get to see the amount of data that has been sent. You can even send protected SIS files using Bluetooth with this application. You can create quick folder links for folders that you visit often. It’s like a desktop shortcut in Windows. Additionally you can copy the Files that you have stored in the messaging inbox folder directly without having to save them manually. Guess what, you can even assign custom file extensions for your application and the files that you use on the device.

The application is a free, hence there is a 3 second delay when you are opening and closing the application. Not bad at all, especially considering the onboard document viewer along with zip archive which come as standalone paid applications.
